eService on Healthcare and Social Innovation

Information network is increasingly utilized to drive innovation on a global scale based on information network. In today's world, "open innovation" is rapidly expanding since it differs from the innovation that utilizes only internal resources. It exploits efficiently external resources through the network. In this framework, multiple agents collaborate to generate innovation. Our vision is to conceptualize a new social paradigm aggressively based on this open innovation scheme. In this session, we will shed light on a great achievement in the field of social innovation against poverty. This activity has given an enormous impact to the world, which is brought by Prof. Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate, through the Grameen Bank. Furthermore, this session will touch on the latest trends in the area of medical science and healthcare using ICT, which is one of the most important areas for current open innovation, so that we can deepen our understanding on this issue. First of all, Mr. Kazi Islam, CEO of Grameen Solutions, will introduce the Grameen Bank and its activities to us. Their activities have given hope to those who are fighting against poverty. Moreover, their achievement has brought us a new design of open innovation for our society. Secondly, Ms. Mychelle M. Mowry, Vice President of Oracle, will speak on the open innovation in the field of healthcare with regard to some important trends in the US, which utilizes database and digital network extensively and proactively. And Prof. Osamu Sudoh, the University of Tokyo, and the co-researchers will report on the latest trends and challenges in preventive medicine using sensor network in Japan.

Title: Technology Solutions: Needs and Opportunities in Emerging Countries

My speech will cover needs in various sectors in Emerging countries such as Education, Healthcare, Government, Agriculture and opportunities we can create through technology innovation related to business and services.

Biography

Kazi Islam joined Grameen Solutions as a Chief Executive Officer with more than 12 years of professional experience serving in industries such as IT, Communication, Media, Energy and Utility, Automotive and Consumer Electronics. Kazi Islam returned back to Bangladesh after 18 years of living and working abroad. He envisions increasing country's technology base by creating partnership with Global technology companies and by creating technology based jobs and opportunities. He was instrumental in creating partnership with Intel and bringing Intel's World Ahead Program to Bangladesh soon after his return to the country. He is also driving Grameen Solution's vision to build partnerships with Global Technology companies to jointly create technology based jobs, products, services and solutions for developing world.

Kazi worked in multiple Fortune 500 companies including IBM and Ford. At IBM he worked as a Strategy Consultant in Industrial Sector of IBM Global Business Services. His consultancy experience includes Business Process Outsourcing, Business Process Management, Business Transformation Outsourcing, Business and Strategy Development, Joint Venture and Postmerger Integration and Change Management. Some of the notable companies he served are Disney, Sharp, Samsung and Xcel Energy.

He also has extensive product development and manufacturing experiences through working at companies like Ford, Jaguar and Mazda. His experiences include Lean Manufacturing, Product Development, Global Sourcing, Product Portfolio Management, Supply Chain Management, Sustainable Technology Deployment and Market Growth Strategy.

Kazi Islam brings strong educational background along with his extensive professional experiences. He acquired his Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Master of Science in Systems Engineering and Master of Business Administration with emphasis in Management and Corporate Strategy.

His professional experience includes working in 3 different continents where he lived and worked in countries like USA, England and Japan. He currently lives and works in Bangladesh with a focus on identifying opportunities to improve lives through technology.

Title: Quality Driven Health Care in an eSociety

Mychelle M. Mowry, Vice President, Global Health Industries, Oracle, USA

Biography

Ms. Mychelle Mowry is vice president of Global Health Industries for Oracle. In her current role, she is responsible for the global strategies for both the Healthcare Industry and the Life Sciences Industry and chairs the respective boards for Oracle. Ms. Mowry has over thirty years of experience as a clinician, nurse executive and professional services consultant, specializing in IT strategic planning, implementation and support of clinical and research systems. She has worked extensively in the area of clinical informatics and operational re-design. She has worked, published, lectured and researched in the areas of clinical informatics, healthcare economics and business strategies. Ms. Mowry has designed clinical systems and developed taxonomies for systems. She advises CIOs and CEOs in the area of healthcare technology, clinical transformation and patient safety strategies.

Ms. Mowry has taught at the graduate level, consulted to various types of healthcare organizations, and lectured throughout the world. She has authored a number of articles and a book related to healthcare economics and information technology.

Title: eService Innovation and Sensor Based Healthcare

Osamu Sudoh, Professor, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Informatics, the University of Tokyo, Japan

Biography

Prof. Sudoh received his doctorial degree in economics from the University of Tokyo in 1989 and was appointed a professor of the University of Tokyo in 1999. His interest area includes information economy, social informatics, and environmental economy. Since 1990s, Prof. Sudoh has been working on public policy development with e-Government and e-Public Services, e-Money, e-Commerce, and e-Signature research. His current effort is focused on development of e-Community exploiting ubiquitous networks.

Prof. Sudoh has being contributing to numerous Japanese government policies for e-Society such as an Assessor of New IT Reform Strategy by Japanese Government and Chair of Assessment Committee of Japanese e-Government.

He has authored and edited a number of books including “Digital Economy and Social Design,” published by Springer Verlag in 2005. He is also serving a number of academic society activities such as President of the Japan Association for Social Informatics and President of International Academy of CIO.
